Marie Hage, President of the TR Proctor High School student council, invited The Arc, Oneida-Lewis Chapter, NYSARC’s Volunteer Coordinator, Edie Pugh, to speak at their monthly meeting in November. Pugh educated the students about The Arc’s Holiday Giving program in which the community is able to “adopt” families for the holidays.
Upon learning more about The Arc and the Holiday Giving program the students decided they would like to participate. They “adopted” two families and helped them with contributions of gifts and food baskets with monies that the student council raised.
On December 11, members of the student council accompanied by TR Proctor principal Steven Falchi, presented the gifts and food baskets to The Arc’s Executive Director, Angela VanDerhoof and to Pugh, at Arc headquarters on Genesee Street in Utica.
The students’ gifts and donations will bring heartfelt smiles to some very special people this holiday season.
