Utica Girl Scout Troop 618 from the Albany Street Magnet School is participating in the Saturday Friends program at The Arc’s new Marcy Facility. The Troop is participating in honor of March being Developmental Disabilities Month, but is also looking to obtain a Bronze Award with The Arc’s help. Edie Pugh, The Arc’s Volunteer Coordinator will contribute to the Girls obtaining this award through communications with The Girl Scouts of America. Ten Girl Scouts are taking part in two sessions and there were parent tours of the new Saturday Friends facility.
Saturday Friends is a socialization and supported play program designed to offer fun, safe and appropriate activities for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their siblings. Parents have a choice to use this time as respite or to attend a parent group to discuss issues in the home, school and/or community. Guest speakers are also brought in to provide additional information and support.
If you or someone you know would like to volunteer at Saturday Friends, or other Arc programs or activities, please contact Edie Pugh at 315.272.1521 or email her at epugh@thearcolc.org.
