The National Technical Honor Society inducted 21 Madison-Oneida BOCES students at an evening ceremony on Wednesday, March 11, in the Rossetti Education Center Courtyard at BOCES. The new members were all seniors enrolled in one of 20 Career and Technical Education programs offered at BOCES.

Induction into the National Technical Honor Society is the highest award and level of recognized achievement a Career and Technical Education student can obtain. The honor society is a national organization with more than 2,000 member schools. To qualify, students must maintain an overall average of 88 or higher, excellent attendance, demonstrated leadership and citizenship skills and an ongoing commitment to Career and Technical Education.

As part of the ceremony, students participated in a candle lighting presentation to highlight the seven character attributes promoted by the National Technical Honor Society, including: skill, honesty, service, responsibility, scholarship, citizenship and leadership.

Following the presentation, students were recognized for their individual accomplishments and presented with their membership certificates and honor cords. Inducted members will wear their NTHS cords during their high school commencement ceremonies in June and will be recognized as honor graduates. CTE co-advisors Martin Iritz and Nancy Pitman coordinated the event. Dr. John Costello, Sr., BOCES Board President and Susan Carr, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, addressed the group.
