Early this morning the Van Hornsville Fire Dept and Rural/Metro Ambulance was dispatched to a reported possible fire on Rt 168 at the old Shaut Farm. I work with Rural/Metro and arrived shortly after the first Van Hornsville units did and the barn was already burned to the ground and that is when the Fire Dept found the grass fire which was aprox. 100 to 200 yards away from the barn fire on the other side of a tree line. Van Hornsville Fire requested mutal aid from Mohawk Fire dept and a tanker from St. Johnsville Fire Dept. Man power was requested for the Richfield Springs Fire Dept but was canceled while responding. South Minden and East Herkimer were put on stand by at their Fire Stations.
