The Arc, Oneida-Lewis Chapter NYSARC has been awarded a $1000 Community Grant from Walmart in New Hartford, New York. The monies awarded will be used to purchase signage for six exercise stations that will be installed by Utica College construction students. The stations and signage will be installed along the Wellness Trail at The Arc’s Charles B. Wolkon Day Camp. The Arc individuals and Staff would like to extend their appreciation to Walmart for helping to make this possible.
The Day Camp gives individuals an opportunity to spend a week during the summer away from their usual activities in a relaxed camp setting. The Charles B. Wolkon Day Camp was established in 1969 to provide a safe haven for children and adults with developmental disabilities to enjoy everyday summer fun. Some everyday activities at the camp include arts and crafts, ping-pong, foosball, billiards, basketball, kickball, volleyball, fishing, nature hikes, karaoke and team building events. With the construction of the Wellness Trails complete and the installation of the exercise stations and signage, the individuals will be able to be more aware of their health and fitness as well. With the help of donors like Walmart, The Arc has been expanding and improving the camp over the past two years.
