the oldest restaurant in rome is up for sale.james"jimmy"colangelo was born upstairs from the restaurant his parents owned on 229 e. dominick street .he passed away last year @ 84 years old.the restaurant was established in 1907.it was one of romes favorite places to eat, drink, and enjoy a good, friendly, italian style evening.the business survived the prohibition,"jimmy" in world war 2,and a fire in the 70s.i think its just a shame to loose the heritage and quality of a business like that one "jimmy" worked his whole life to improve for his customers.i was the chef there for 8 years, and never had a better boss, or job.i miss "the plaza"restaraunt, and will never forget what it was all about. like the "boss"sometimes said"lets face it ,those days are over".i miss him ,and the proudness of being a part of it all.i guess all good.....or i should say"great" things must come to an end.

RIP Jimmy. I was stationed at Griffiss AFB from 1984-1986 & The Plaza was my favorite place for GREAT Italian food. Best Veal Parmigiana on the planet! Thanks for the memories.

I live in Virginia & visit The Plaza when I'm in Rome. I learned they were closed when I was last there. The loss of a fine man & landmark. Where does the head chef work now? A Patron.

I too miss the Plaza and Jimmy who use to sit on the outside corner of the bar greeting customers warmly. The food was great. So where does the Head Chef work now? I would really like a square Pizza, or some Veal Parm. Midnite_mike@hotmail.com

My ex and I went there on dates (1958 to 1960) and again in 1988 on a trip here. Now we (new spouse) have "retired" back here and we were SOOOO sorry to find it closed. Is there ANY hope of other family members re-opening it? I would LOVE A JOB THE
