Oriskany Young Naturalists Club

The Art of Nature

4th and 5th grade students from N.A. Walbran Elementary School in Oriskany visited the Utica Zoo on April 18. The students were enrolled in an eight-week program at the Oriskany Public Library, which was taught by Scientific Illustrator, Marilyn Hailbronner, of Rome. The main goal of the program was to introduce children to the art of nature by having them create field journals. During the program the children were given drawing lessons and had the chance to observe and sketch small, stuffed and live, large animals during their trip to the zoo.

Hey, I took that photo! :) It was great of the library to offer such a fun, educational and creative program to the community kids in Oriskany! Kudos to the library for such a neat idea.
