Sumo Participants at Tech Showcase

RoboSpartans Place 3rd in Sumo

The RoboSpartans participated in the Mohawk Valley Technology & Pre-Engineering Showcase on March 11, 2010, as both event volunteers and participants. The well seasoned robotics team helped run a min-FLL Challenge for area Jr. High School teams from Clinton, Rome/Strough, Sauquoit and VVS. The RoboSpartans also took part in the SUMO Robot Challenge, taking 3rd place with their robot named “Iron Beetle”. First Place went to “Predator” from Holland Patent and Sauquoit’s “Warthog” won 2nd Place. Participants included an additional RoboSpartan robot named “MIZA” (4th Place) along with a Clinton and second Sauquoit entry. All participating teams received a Hitechnic robot sensor and wire kit from competition hosts, John and Pat Barnes.

The next local Sumo competition will be the CNY FIRST Robot Riot on June 12, 2010 at SUNYIT’s Campus Center Gym. New participants, age 9-14 are welcome. All participants must be accompanied by a coach or parent. There will also be a Pop Picker competition where robots run missions on a 4x8 mat to retrieve up to 12 lollypops. Not an easy task to program!

The RoboSpartans will be sharing their Sumo skills at a FREE Robot Demonstration at Piggy Pats in New Hartford, on Sunday March 14, 2010, from 1 to 4 pm. Stop in for lunch and see what CNY FIRST and FIRST LEGO League is all about as the team prepares for the World Festival in Atlanta!
