Police, Fire, Ambulance, Computer Professionals to Educate Children at Old Navy Summer Safety Event
New Hartford, NY (June 2, 2010) – Old Navy in New Hartford is partnering with several local organizations to celebrate its Summer Safety Event on Saturday, June 5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The New Hartford Police Department, New York Mills Fire Department, Edwards Ambulance, and Best Buy Geek Squad will educate younger customers on proper safety techniques, including bike, Internet, fire, and summer safety. Furthermore, the New York State Troopers are bringing their rollover simulator to educate teens on driving safety, a perfect time during this graduation season.
This year, Old Navy has partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters to help teach those from single parent homes about being safe. Without positive role models in a supportive home environment, it can be hard to grow knowing proper safety strategies.
“This event is so ideal for this time of year,” said Paul Stern, director of community services at Upstate Cerebral Palsy, who also coordinates activities for Big Brothers Big Sisters. “School is out in less than a month and we really want to help make sure the youth in this area are making safe decisions throughout the summer. I am so glad that the police, fire, ambulance, and computer professionals are taking time out of their busy schedules to come and support this cause, educating the members of Big Brothers Big Sisters and the children at Old Navy.”
Old Navy is celebrating their event on June 5 in honor of National Safety Awareness Month. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., professionals will be available to educate the children. Giveways will be available while a drawing will also take place to raffle off a bike safety kit, courtesy of First Source Federal Credit Union.
