UTICA, N.Y. -- The second brother charged following a Taberg man’s death in September was arraigned on Monday.

Michael Westcott is accused of stabbing his brother, James Westcott, who had already been shot in the head by another brother, during a family dispute at their home on Route 69 on Sept. 17. James died at the hospital from his injuries.

Michael pleaded not guilty to attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. The defense requested a mental health evaluation, which was granted by the judge.

Matthew Wescott, the other brother accused in the case, was arraigned on murder charges on Nov. 12. He also pleaded not guilty.

Michael was arraigned virtually on Monday due to a cluster of COVID-19 cases reported at the Oneida County jail.
