UPD Investigating fatal hit-and-run

UTICA, N.Y. (UPDATED) -- A Utica man is facing charges after leaving the scene of a fatal hit-and-run. 

Utica Police Department said 31-year-old Jeffrey Jones of Utica left the scene of a hit and run without calling emergency services. 

Police were called to Court St. and Lincoln Avenue for a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian around 2:25 a.m. Saturday morning.

Officials say when they arrived on the scene, they found a man lying in the roadway. Police tell NewsChannel 2 the individual was transported to St. Elizabeths Hospital where he later died from his injuries. 

On the scene, police say they found a license plate that belonged to Jones. When they located the vehicle, police say there was extensive damage to the hood and windshield. 

Police tell NewsChannel 2 Jones exited the home where the vehicle was parked and admitted to hitting the man on Court Street.

Jones is charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death.

The investigation is ongoing.
