UTICA, NY - With the school year inching closer, some area children-in-need got free school supplies, Monday.

And it was all thanks to the Johnson Park Center. Johnson Park has been a vital part of the Utica community for 26 years now and to celebrate they are once again holding their Days of Celebration event.

With the start of school right around the corner, families lined up along West Street to receive book bags filled with free school supplies. By providing these supplies, Rev. Dr. Maria Scates, CEO, and founder of Johnson Park, says it's one less thing parents and kids have to worry about, especially after all the chaos last year thanks to the pandemic.

“We need to make sure that our young students have everything they need to go to school. Enclosed in the gym bags are notebook paper, folders, rulers, and crayons. We even have face masks."

If you couldn’t make it to Monday’s giveaway, Johnson Park is holding another one on Tuesday from 2 to 6 pm at their West Street location.
