UTICA, N.Y. – The Boilermaker Road Race has lowered the 15K race cap from 12,000 to 9,000 due to “supply chain issues” that have affected the cost, availability and delivery of race supplies. That's according to Boilermaker officials who sent an email about the cap reduction to runners on Sunday.
The cap has been lowered for the virtual race as well as the in-person event on Oct. 10.
Registration will be open until Oct. 1 or until the caps are reached. The 5K will max out at 4,000.
Boilermaker President Mark Donovan says as of Monday, Aug. 9, there were more than 5,000 people registered for the 15K and about 1,200 for the 5K. Roughly 300 people have signed up to participate virtually this year.
Vaccines are required for all participants 12 and older. Proof of vaccination must be presented at packet pick-up at the Health Expo at Sangertown Square on Oct. 8 or 9. Anyone who has a health exemption will have to provide a valid medical accommodation form.
