UTICA, N.Y. -- The day before the Boilermaker, future 5K and 15K runners take part in the wildly-popular Utica National Kids' Run on the grounds of Mohawk Valley Community College.
The thing is – you have to sign up early.
Kids ages 4 through 12 years old run anywhere from a quarter of a mile to one mile. And some treat the youth run as a warm up for the 5K the very next day.
"Past couple years, I'm seeing more and more 9, 10, 11 and 12-year-olds running our event then doing the 5K the next morning, so it's great to see them taking the next step,” said Dennis Brenon, the kid’s run coordinator.
Registration is Friday, 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Health and Fitness Expo at MVCC.
The runs are broken down by age, distance and ability.
The event is capped at 1,800.
