After New York State held fireworks displays statewide, many in the Utica area wondered: does this mean the city's recently-canceled 4th of July fireworks display would be resurrected?
"We will take a look at it and see if we can put something together in a short period of time. Don't know, as we are speaking right now, we are looking into it," says Mayor Robert Palmieri.
As for Saranac Thursdays, FX Matt Brewing Co. President, Fred Matt, says they won't be re-igniting the weekly tradition until August, if at all, because they still want their hurting restaurant and bar partners to be able to take advantage of all the pent-up demand from consumers. But, they are planning some concerts.
"If we started mid-August, we'd probably do one or two in September and probably one in October," says Matt. He also has a party to plan. "Boilermaker obviously is gonna be run. We are gonna do some type of post race party."
So far, nothing has changed, regarding the Boilermaker's plan to run at 60% capacity. But could it change?
"The way every day's been going, absolutely," says Race President, Mark Donovan. "What could happen to get changes to happen with capacity? Increased vaccinations."
Donovan says he and other Boilermaker staff met with the NYS Department of Health June 3rd, but are still in touch with them regarding unresolved questions. He says the focus is on making October's in-person race as fun and memorable as possible, for those running it.
