UTICA, N.Y. – The Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CABVI) has been recognized by Mohawk Valley EDGE for its work distribute personal protective equipment at the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

Ed Welsh, CEO of CABVI, says the organization has taken all necessary precautions to keep everyone safe since March, while still distributing nitrile gloves to address the national shortage.

“We went to extreme measures for cleaning, extreme measures for contact tracing. If you had a cold, you weren’t coming to work. We were very diligent; we kept it safe for our employees,” he said.

CABVI was the first of five Leading EDGE Award recipients this year. The others include Environmental Composites, the Greater Utica Chamber of Commerce, Indium Corporation and SUNY Polytechnic Institute.

One recipient will be recognized each week, in lieu of the annual awards luncheon that normal happens each spring.
