In preparation for St. Patrick's Day on Saturday, the Irish flag was raised over Utica City Hall.
It was a cold, windy, snowy day but that didn't stop the bagpipes and the procession to the flag pole.
Members of the local Irish community gathered to celebrate the event and discuss the importance of the Irish heritage.
"To the Irish, this is our Christmas," said President of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Russell Brooks. "It's a big, big day. You know we celebrate our Irish heritage and we also celebrate our catholic faith."
St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17, the day of St. Patrick's death.
