UTICA, N.Y. - The Downtown Revitalization Local Planning Committee held a public open house Wednesday night.

It's been just over a month since the city of Utica was awarded $10 million through the state's Downtown Revitalization Initiative.

The local planning committee is asking for the public's input to come up with the final plans for the DRI funding.

The city has an 87 page application that was submitted to win the DRI funding, but members of the planning committee say the projects in the application are just ideas, nothing is set in stone.

The projects were framed by public input through public outreach events and an online survey.

At the open house, community members were encouraged to submit comments and ideas for the DRI funding.

The local planning committee is also accepting project proposals until Jan. 8.

"We have an open call for projects, private developers, business owners, non-profits can put in an application in saying what they want to do, asking for a certain amount of funding for those projects," Derek Crossman, the community development specialist said. "What's going to happen is our 18 member planning committee will evaluate the projects and decide which ones are the right ones for downtown at this particular point."

Copies of the application can be found at Utica City Hall and can be submitted online here.

There will be three more public local planning committee meetings from 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 13, Feb. 6 and March 2 at the thINCubator at 326 Broad St. There will also be a second open house from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 6 at the thINCubator.
