REMSEN, N.Y. - The Remsen Central School's Board of Education held a special meeting Tuesday night to address questions and concerns from parents regarding the postponement of fall sports.

The school district sent a letter out on Friday notifying parents and student athletes that sports will be postponed indefinitely.

The superintendent says the decision is in the best interest of all the students and the community.

Some parents that spoke during the zoom meeting tonight say they were blindsided by the decision.

The superintendent, Tim Jenny, started the meeting by reiterating the reasons for postponing sports, which include protecting the whole community and minimizing the risk of spreading the virus.

Some parents are upset over the decision, especially parents of students in their senior year.

District officials say they do understand the frustrations parents and athletes are feeling, but they feel this is what's best for the district.

One reason many parents are upset is they say they weren't involved in the decision and they are worried about their children's future.

"It's just sad, this decision is just astonishing, they made the decision like this without consulting the community," Richard Lehman, a parents of a senior athlete said. "This is their [senior athletes] chance to excel, this is their chance to prove themselves to a college."

"This is more than just not having soccer, we on this call all have children that are going to be affected now and for their future," Toni Lynne, a parent of a senior athlete said.

The board did re-vote at the end of the meeting, but their outcome was the same.
