The Sauquoit Valley Central School District is extending remote learning until Jan. 11.
Last week, the district announced that students would be fully remote until Jan 4. but superintendent, Ron Wheelock, says it's been difficult maintaining a full staff due to the rise in positive cases after Thanksgiving, and he is concerned the same thing will happen following Christmas and New Year's.
"We don't know the unknowns of what our data is going to look like after this holiday break, we come back on January 4th and we won't have a lot of time to really react to any data that comes our way," Wheelock said. "What I can envision is perhaps an outbreak right after New Year's or maybe the outbreak happens right around Christmas time or that following week."
Official notifications will be sent out to the school community Wednesday.
The board of education also voted unanimously to cancel all winter sports, not only because of coronavirus concerns, but fiscal concerns as well.
