WHITESBORO -- Family and Whitesboro police are mourning the loss of a son, brother, and colleague.
A friend of Officer Kevin Crossley says the Whitesboro community is shaken by the loss.
The Village of Whitesboro is devastated to learn that officer Crossley is gone, after what state police are calling a tragic accident.
According to CNY Central, Crossley was one of ten police officers working at the department, and a seven year veteran on the force who wanted to protect and serve his hometown community.
Jade Foley is a friend of Crossley’s and owner of the 69 Steakhouse. She says she's going to miss seeing him in her restaurant
“When we first opened, back in the day, we would have bands, and Kevin would come down and he was a regular and you knew what he drank when he came in,” Foley said. “Disbelief. I mean this isn't something that happens around here, you know, we're a small tight-knit community that things like this don't happen to people you know.”
Foley says things haven't really sunk in yet, but she hopes Crossley’s fellow officers know the community is standing with them.
She says it's surreal that he won't ever walk through the doors of her restaurant or around the community again. Foley put a sign up on her restaurant as a way to pay a tribute to officer Crossley.
