HERKIMER - As Veterans Day draws near, the names of 18 veterans from Herkimer County have now been added to the Herkimer County Veterans Memorial, which is located on the campus of Herkimer College.

The veterans who were honored served in conflicts from World War I all the way up to the current War on Terror.

Of the 18 veterans, one is still alive. His name has gone up on the monument this year, along with three of his relatives who also served, two of whom were killed in action.

“Families come to me and say, ‘Hey, we heard about the wall at Herkimer College – how do we get our family members on there?’ And the veterans have to have an honorable discharge and serve in the military,” said Richard Louis, director of the Herkimer County Veterans Service Agency.

The names were added to the monument this past weekend.
