Utica, N.Y. - An 18-year-old from Utica is facing charges after police tried to stop him while he was on his bike, but then allegedly fled from officers.
Utica Police say they tried to stop 18-year-old Kaivon Hamell while he was on his bike along the 1400 block of Miller Street Saturday evening around 7:45.
Police say they wanted to talk to him in regards to an active investigation. Right now they aren't releasing details on which active investigation.
Police say when officers approached Hamell, he got off the bike and ran through backyards and after a pursuit the officers were able to detain him on West Street.
Police say when officers returned to the location of where they first saw Hamell, they located his bicycle as well as a loaded .45 caliber handgun.
Hamell is charged with Criminal possession of a weapon, Criminal possession of a firearm and Obstruction of governmental administration
