WAMPSVILLE, N.Y. – Two Madison County businesses have been fined $500 for violating state mask mandates.
Troyer’s Country Store in Cazenovia and Cone Masters ice cream shop in Munnsville were both issued citations after employees were found not to be wearing masks when less than six feet away from customers.
These are the first citations Madison County Health Department has had to issue for violations of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s executive orders regarding COVID-19 regulations.
“We do not want to issue citations to our local businesses, but after being properly educated on the executive order and best practices, these locations continued to not enforce the rules with their employees,” said Eric Faisst, Madison County public health director.
When the county receives a complaint about a business not complying with state mandates, the Madison County Health Department or Madison County Sheriff’s Office investigate the issue.
Faisst urges the public to continue to follow the safety guidelines to curb the spread of coronavirus.
“Wearing a face covering is one of the best defenses we have against COVID-19. We have said for months now, and continue to ask people to wear their face coverings when they are unable to maintain social distancing. We hope that we all can continue to work together to limit the spread of this virus,” he said.
