WESTMORELAND, N.Y. (UPDATED) – Two suspects were arrested Thursday after an altercation turned physical in Westmoreland over the weekend.
Oneida County sheriff’s deputies were called to a field on Shed Road around 12:45 a.m. Saturday, for a reported fight. Sheriff Robert Maciol says there were about 50 people at the location, and believes this was a party promoted through social media.
After the altercation, a 22-year-old man was sent to the hospital to be treated for injuries to his face.
Days later on Aug. 6, two suspects were arrested in connection with the incident.
Alex Baird, 21, is charged with second-degree assault, a D felony.
Another alleged assailant, 20-year-old Derik Baker, was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing.
Baird was taken to the Oneida County jail to await arraignment, and Baker was released on an appearance ticket.
The sheriff's office put out an alert last week about these large parties happening in rural areas. Maciol says several crimes have been reported at these scene, including larceny, assault and underage drinking.
