MARCY, N.Y. – A stray cat in Marcy tested positive for rabies earlier this week, according to the Oneida County Health Department.
The cat was sent to the state health department’s Wadsworth Center in Albany on Tuesday, Sept. 7 to be tested. Positive results were reported the next day.
The county health department says two people and two dogs were exposed to the rabid the cat. The people received preventative treatment through post-exposure prophylaxis.
Anyone who sees a wild or stray animal acting strangely or foaming at the mouth should stay away and call the local animal control office.
