NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. – A Utica man and a child were sent to the hospital with minor injuries after a four-car crash on Route 840 west in New Hartford on Monday.
New Hartford police say around 11:15 a.m., 30-year-old Michael Carter, of Utica, claims he could not stop in time for the red traffic signal at the railroad crossing, and hit another vehicle while attempting to switch lanes. Carter crashed into 33-year-old Jennifer Dodge, of New Hartford, who was driving with three children in the car.
After Carter hit Dodge, his car continued down the road before hitting two other vehicles, one driven by 36-year-old Matthew White, of New York Mills, and the other by 17-year-old Kimberly Tran, of Utica. Both White and Tran were stopped at the red light.
Carter and one of the kids in Dodge’s car were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Carter was also issued traffic tickets, returnable to New Hartford Court at a later date.
