$22.7M in NY grants awarded for high-speed broadband in Mohawk Valley

A total of $22.7 million in grants for high-speed broadband have been awarded throughout the Mohawk Valley, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

A total of $22.7 million in grants for high-speed broadband have been awarded throughout the Mohawk Valley, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

The funding is being awarded through the New NY Broadband Program Round III, and the grants are expected to provide 13,302 homes and other locations with access to high-speed internet, according to Cuomo.

Locations in Fulton, Montgomery and Scoharie counties will also benefit from the grants.

According to Cuomo, 11 awarded projects will address unserved territories in the Mohawk Valley. Nearly 1,000 miles of broadband infrastructure will be deployed, providing residents and companies across the region with access to new economic opportunities.

Cuomo says that when the New NY Broadband Program was launched in 2015, 99.6 percent of Mohawk Valley residents - over 236,000 homes - lacked access to broadband.
