The State Preparedness Training Center in Oriskany is set to have some new hands on deck following a graduation ceremony from a training program with the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services Office of Fire Prevention and Control.

Twenty-three people graduated Wednesday from the Fire Protection Specialist Academy Class, a 14-week training program that focused on topics related to fire protection, prevention and safety. Many of the graduates will support the state’s new Swiftwater and Flood Rescue training venue at the State Preparedness Training Center in Oriskany.

“I commend these [23] new Fire Protection Specialists who come from across the State and bring with them a myriad of skills, backgrounds and experiences,” said State Fire Administrator Francis Nerney in a news release. “Those skills and experiences, coupled with their 14 weeks of training, have prepared them well to join the ranks of the Office of Fire Prevention and Control.”
