UTICA – Three vacancies at the Utica Police Department means three new recruits coming off the bench.
The new recruits were sworn in at Utica City Hall on Thursday.
Recruits Patrick Husnay and Joseph Lanza will be headed to the academy and field training before becoming officers, while Dino Jukic is already certified.
Utica Police say this is the lowest number of recruits the department has sent to the academy in the last decade.
“What people don't realize, the process to hire a police officer takes about one year if you include the written test, the physical agility test, and then the extensive background and all the other testing – psychological, polygraph testing, interviews, medical testing. It takes about a year before you can fully hire a police officer and get them on the street," said Utica Police Chief Mark Williams.
There are a total of 164 members in the Utica Police Department.
