HAMILTON, N.Y. – Colgate University has confirmed 33 positive cases of coronavirus within the campus community, according to the Madison County Health Department.
Since Aug. 26, four staff members and 29 students have tested positive.
A total of 4,878 tests were conducted in total.
“We are closely monitoring the situation in Hamilton,” said Madison County Public Health Director Eric Faisst. “We understand that this will heighten the concern of many of our residents, but at this time the risk to the general public is still considered low. We have been working with Colgate for over a month on their reopening plan and it is being executed as it was stated. I have faith in the University as well as my staff to put the health of all members of our community in the highest regard.”
The health department says they are working with all local colleges and schools to help manage testing and contain any spread of the virus.
