UPDATE: Sunday morning, Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol released a statement saying, that after 95-year-old Alden Vierow of Whitesboro NY was transported from the scene to St Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica to be treated for his injuries, consisting of minor lacerations, stomach, and back pain worsened, he subsequently passed away at the hospital.
Sheriff Maciol says an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
The investigation is continuing by the Oneida County Sheriff's Office.
VERONA, N.Y. --- 4 people were sent to the hospital following a crash on Route 365.
When deputies arrived, they determined that Alden Vierow (95), of Whitesboro, NY, was driving a blue 2013 Hyundai Sonata and was stopped at the stop sign on the northern side of Blackmans Corners Rd.
Due to failure to yield the right of way and driver inattention, Vierow drove into the roadway crossing the westbound lanes of traffic before hitting a black 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling eastbound on Route 365 in the driving lane. Police said the driver, Gregory Regulbuto (71), of Canastota, NY, was hit head-on by Vierow. Both vehicles went off the southern shoulder of Route 365 coming to rest in the snow bank.
Vierow was taken to St Elizabeth Hospital for minor lacerations and stomach and lower back pain. Regulbuto was taken to Rome Health to be evaluated for minor complaints of pain.
The front seat passenger in Regulbuto’s vehicle, Lynda Kuhry (71), of Syracuse, NY, was taken from the scene to Rome Health for an ankle injury and the back seat passenger of Regulbuto’s vehicle, E. Regulbuto (67), of Canastota, NY, was also taken to Rome Health for minor complaints of pain.
Vierow was issued a citation for failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign returnable to Town of Verona court at a later date.
