In Oneida County Court this morning, Robert Coffin pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Officials say they did not charge him for fleeing from and area and traveling to Las Vegas, but they would not discuss why.

During court proceedings today Coffin was accompanied by Rome police and two U.S. Marshals from New York and New Jersey. Those men helped transport Coffin to the area from Las Vegas.

Both attorneys say the investigation is ongoing and they are still looking through evidence in the case. Defense Attorney Kurt Schultz wouldn’t speak on camera but he says that there is video evidence he has to review, which he says could identify his client the night of the murder.

The prosecution says that they, too, are still going over evidence in the case in order to prepare for a trial.

“We're going forward, we’re continuing to investigate the case,” said Oneida County Assistant District Attorney Michael Nolan. “It doesn't stop just with an arrest; we’re looking to every angle, we’re still talking with witnesses and making sure we have everything in line to go forward depending on where this case ends up.”

Coffin still has to discuss the case with his attorney, who is a public defender.

Coffin is scheduled to appear in court November 14 to go over a possible plea deal.
