ROME – An arrest has been made in an attempted robbery that occurred in the city of Rome last year, according to the Rome Police Department.
Police say that on January 28, 2016, a 79-year-old woman was walking to her vehicle in the parking lot of the Black River Shopping Center in Rome when somebody ran up from behind her and grabbed her purse. Police say the woman was knocked to the ground but she did not let go of her purse, and the suspect then fled from the area on foot without having stolen anything.
The victim sustained several injuries during the incident but she has since recovered.
Police say a positive DNA hit from clothing that was recovered immediately following the attempted robbery led to the arrest of 19-year-old Curtis Thompson on Saturday. Thompson is charged with second-degree attempted robbery and second-degree assault.
