UTICA – A Utica man has been charged with second-degree murder following the October 5 shooting death of David Davis, according to the Utica Police Department.
Jahari Brown, 33, was arrested Sunday night and charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He appeared in court Monday morning and pleaded not guilty to the charges, and he's being held in the Oneida County Jail without bail.
Just after 8 p.m. on October 5, Utica police responded to the Cathedral Gardens Apartments at 1506 Whitesboro Street, where 35-year-old David Davis was found outside the building with gunshot wounds. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center where he died from his injuries a short time later.
Utica police had been searching for the suspect ever since, and the Mohawk Valley Crime Stoppers had offered a reward of $1,500 for information leading to an arrest.
Police say an investigation led to Brown being developed as a suspect, and he was arrested shortly after noon on Sunday following a vehicle stop at South Street and McQuade Avenue in Utica.
