HERKIMER – A Herkimer woman has been charged after a toddler fell out of a second-story window while in her care last month, according to the Herkimer Police Department.

Around 5:30 p.m. September 25, Herkimer police responded to the 400 block of North Prospect Street for a report of a toddler falling from a second-story window. Police say that during the investigation, they learned that 53-year-old Lisa Stefanec was responsible for the child and she was in the room at the time of the incident.

Police say the toddler sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, then transferred to a hospital outside the local area for further treatment. At this time, the child’s condition is steadily improving, according to police.

Once the investigation had concluded, Stefanec was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment. She was processed and released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Village of Herkimer Court at a later date.
