New York State Police are searching for a larceny suspect following a high speed chase yesterday evening.

Police say the chase started around 5 p.m. Tuesday at JCPenney in New Hartford after the suspect, Scott Mowry of Oriskany, allegedly stole merchandise from the store. The chase led police through several towns, and state police eventually called off the chase due to unsafe conditions. A state police K-9 located Mowry’s vehicle yesterday evening where he had ditched it in Holland Patent.

Police say that there were reported sightings of Mowry today that led to the General William Floyd Elementary School in Floyd being placed on lockout.

Mowry currently has an open felony arrest warrant out of Oriskany, according to police. Mowry is also a registered Level 2 sex offender after he was convicted of two counts of felony third-degree rape in 2009 for having sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old that same year.

If anybody has information regarding Mowry’s whereabouts, they’re asked to call 911.
