State Trooper hospitalized following shooting in Binghamton

A NYS Trooper has been hospitalized following a shooting incident in Binghamton, according to TV station WBNG.

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - A NYS Trooper has been hospitalized following a shooting incident in Binghamton, according to TV station WBNG.


WBNG reports the trooper is hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

One gunshot was fired when the trooper was attempting to make an arrest. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the hospital with unknown injuries, authorities told WBNG.

(Binghamton, NY – January 2, 2018) Shortly after 5:00 p.m. on January 2, troopers became involved in a pursuit with a suspect wanted on a warrant of arrest. When the pursuit reached the intersection of Conklin Avenue and Alfred Street in the City of Binghamton, troopers were attempting to apprehend the suspect when he intentionally struck a trooper with his vehicle. During the altercation, the suspect sustained a gunshot wound, and fled the scene. He was apprehended a short distance away and was taken to Wilson Memorial Hospital for treatment. The trooper was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Both the trooper and suspect are in stable condition.
