Woman and 2 children killed in Smyrna fire

A woman and two children were killed in a fire in Smyrna early this morning, according to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.

SMYRNA – A woman and two children were killed in a fire in Smyrna early this morning, according to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.

The fire at a camper on German Hollow Road in Smyrna broke out around 4:50 a.m. Deputies say 33-year-old Debbie Pfeiffer, 1-year-old Benjamin Pfeiffer and 10-year-old Amber Morrow died in the fire.

Officials say that the cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 23 at Lourdes Hospital.

Smyrna, Plymouth, North Norwich, City of Norwich and Sherburne fire departments all responded to the scene. The Chenango County Bureau of Fire and New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control also assisted the Sheriff’s Office at the scene.

Deputies say that more details will be released as they become available.
