ROME, N.Y.-The World Series of Bocce is underway in Rome for the 46th year.
This crowd drawing event kicked off Thursday night at the Toccolana Club on East Dominick Street in the city.
Competitors from all over the United States and even Canada come to Rome every year to compete for over $30,000 in cash.
“We have teams that come from all over the country to play including Canada. We have teams coming as far as California, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Vermont, so it's a big event for the community. We have family members that take the opportunity to come back to Rome to visit and play in the event and use it as a reason to come home. And they base their vacations around it so it's just been something that the community has been doing for a long time now." said Joe Mellace, a Committee Member of the Rome Toccolana Club.
The World Series of Bocce runs through Sunday. You can keep up with what is happening here.
