ILION, N.Y.- It was an emotional day in the Village of Ilion, as the fire chief’s career came to an end.

Ilion Fire Chief Robert Paddock retired from the department after 26 years as a firefighter, including the past two as Fire Chief.

Friday a ceremony was held at the firehouse for the chief. Village Mayor Brian Lamica, Paddock’s family, and members from other fire departments throughout the area attended.

Paddock says he will miss working with people the most.

"The fondest memories are the comraderies amongst the people that work here. They are more than friends they're family. And everyday you look forward to coming to work. They always say find a job you love and you'll never work a day in your life, and the fire service is that job." Paddock said.

Paddock plans to enjoy retirement by relaxing, and spending more time with his family.
