UTICA, N.Y.- A candidate for congress visited Utica Thursday night for a Town Hall meeting.
Republican candidate George Phillips from the Binghamton area, came to Utica and held the meeting at the Delta Hotel to call for No More Investigations into president Donald Trump.
Topics Phillips brought up at the meeting were welfare costs, high taxes in New York State, and high healthcare costs across the United States.
Phillips says that Washington is spending too much money on investigating president Trump, that they should look into other issues listed above.
“I believe this is a waste of taxpayer time and money, and we need to focus on real issues so I called this Town Hall, it's the season for town halls for members of congress and I said, I will take questions on any issue except for those on the investigation of President Trump.” Said Phillips. “We're calling it the No more Trump investigations Town hall, and I want to focus on solutions on healthcare, on jobs, on the economy, on welfare to work on the national debt.”.
One local resident Donald Thomas of Bridgewater says he is in favor of Phillips’ ideas, and wants to see what Phillips can do regarding the taxes in New York State.
"I'm very encouraged to see somebody who thinks that It can be controlled and we can reduce this high level of taxation that we have in New York State." Thomas said.
Phillips is a teacher in the Binghamton area.
