ONEONTA, N.Y.- The City of Oneonta is moving forward on re-developing the old rail yards.
At the City’s Common Council meeting Tuesday night, plans to redevelop the rail yards were approved.
COIDA will prepare a redevelopment master plan and economic development strategy for an area encompassing the site located on Roundhouse road near Chestnut Street in Oneonta.
The project would create a new Industrial and Commercial business park, that would potentially create jobs in Oneonta and Otsego County.
Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig says that this project has been in the works for a while, and even though there is still more to be done, the city is now one step closer to the project moving forward.
“This review has gone on for almost 18 months now, and this was the final step and the council approved the findings.” Herzig said. “Basically (the findings) layout what the challenges are for the development of a rail yard, but any further developments, specific developments will require a full seeker in all of the approvals.” Herzig added.
There is no word yet on when the railyards project in Oneonta will begin.
