OLD FORGE, N.Y.- Labor Day always closes out the season for Enchanted Forest Water Safari every year, but this year it also marked the end of two longtime water rides.
Mount Killermanjaro and Serengeti Surf Hill are going away after being at the park since 1988. The slides will be replaced with three new state of the art water slides as part of Water Safari’s expansion.
Construction on removing the slides will begin on Thursday of this week. Sliders that NewsChannel 2 spoke with had a great time on the slides, and they will never forget the memories they have made.
“It’s kind of sad actually because it’s been here my whole life pretty much, but it’s nice to see new things come and better things for people to be interested in.” Emily Gibeau of Sackets Harbor said.
Robby Gibeau, Emily’s son is already looking forward to the new rides coming to Water Safari in 2020.
“It was fun and all but it’s going to go next year and be a different Killermanjaro. And I’m very sad but there’s going to be another Killermanjaro that I still get to go down.” Robby said.
Melody Ascidi from Albany pretty much agreed with the Gibeaus. “Well I'm kind of sad because you know we've been going on this for so long, but I'm excited to see what other slides they're going to put up." Ascidi said.
The new slides replacing Mount Killermanjaro and Serengeti Surf Hill will be up when the park opens for the 2020 season next June. As for the names of the new slides, you’ll just have to stay tuned! The park plans to release the names at a later date.
