SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse police shot and killed a man who Chief Kenton Buckner says shot his 6-year-old nephew Tuesday night.
Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick says Miguel Russo, the man shot by police, was the child's uncle.
Police received reports just before 8 p.m. for a shooting on Fenton Street. Officers responded to the home and say they found Russo with a weapon. He was then shot by an officer and pronounced dead on scene.
Buckner says officers found the 6-year-old inside the home, who was shot before they arrived. The boy is in critical condition and was undergoing surgery at Upstate University Hospital.
No officers were hurt during the incident.
