ROME, NY – The annual Fire on Ice Charity Hockey Game took place at Kennedy Arena in Rome Saturday.
This was the seventh year for the event, which pitted the Washington DC Fire Department hockey team against the CNY Flames hockey team.
The money raised from the event goes to the Burn Foundation of CNY, a non-profit organization that assists burn survivors with their recovery.
Jay Tinker, a burn survivor who was on hand to drop the puck, says the recovery can be both physical and emotional.
“I don’t have the severe scars that some people do. My scars are easily hidden underneath my pants and long-sleeved shirts. Others that have, you know, facial scars and amputations, it’s very difficult for them.”
No bragging rights this year – the game ended in a 3-3 tie.
Since the Fire on Ice charity started, over $30,000 has been raised for the Burn Foundation of CNY.
