A Cold Start to 2018

Cold weather returns for New Year's Eve

Posted: Dec. 30, 2017 7:23 PM

As the snow departs tonight, the cold front brings more frigid, artic air back to the area just in time for New Year's Eve. Temperatures are going to struggle to get into the single digits for New Year's Eve. The record high is 3 for Sunday, with the record low at -12. We could come close to breaking both as right now the high is set for 5 and the low is sitting at -11.

However, it's not just going to be cold. There is a wind chill advisory in effect from 1 AM on December 31st to 1PM January 1st. Expect windchills to range from 0 to 25 below zero. The cold wind chills can cause frostbite as well in as little as 30 minutes.

For those of you heading out for New Year's Eve festivities, make sure you bundle up and wear layers! Be sure to bring pets inside as well. Travelwise the weather is looking favorable with mostly cloudy skies. New York City could see the second coldest New Year's Eve on record.
