With all of the snow that we're expecting this weekend, it will be a great one to get outside and do some outdoor activities like cross country skiing.
We saw some people on the BREIA cross country skiing trails today. They said the trails are in good condition. A cross country skier, Mr. Gene Czajkowski, said "Trails today were super. I mean the snow is groomed and fast and well packed out. And it's always so scenic up here. And just love coming up."
But there will likely be more people on the trails this weekend with the upcoming snow. So far this season our total snowfall is only about 24 inches! This is around 21 inches below average. Normally we have around 24 inches of snowfall in the month of December alone.
The Secretary of the Boonville Search and Rescue Mission, Mrs. Michelle Bartelotte, said "I can't wait to have fresh snow on our trails. They have been icy and people have been out utilizing our trails. But if we have fresh snow, it makes it so much more fun."
And if you're a beginner, the Canal Trail is a good place to start. Plus you can rent equipment at the Boonville Search and Rescue Mission at the start of the trail. Mrs. Bartelotte said "As you can see, we happen to have skis, poles, boots. We also have snowshoes. And in order to rent any of our equipment at the Boonville Search and Rescue, it's a driver's license and five dollars and you can enjoy the equipment for the day."
If you're looking for something more challenging, you can check out the many other BREIA trails! Mrs. Bartelotte said "From beginner to advanced. And we can tell you which trails are best for your ability. You can come support the Boonville Search and Rescue Mission by donating money to rent cross country skis or snowshoes this weekend.
