SYRACUSE – Say goodbye to the Syracuse Chiefs, and hello to a new team name and logo – the Syracuse Mets.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo was in Syracuse Tuesday to announce that the Mets’ minor league franchise will begin playing at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse in 2019. The team has committed to a lease extension of 25 years, meaning the Syracuse Mets will call Syracuse home until at least 2043.
The New York Mets purchased the team last year. It has been known as the Syracuse Chiefs since 1934.
Cuomo says the $26.25 million project will result in an improved experience for dedicated baseball fans and visitors.
