UTICA- The community participated in the ALS Utica Golf Classic at Daniele's at Valley View.
The fundraiser is best known as the Jerry Walsh Cake Eater classic that has always helped families with loved ones who have Lou Gehrig's disease.
Jerry Walsh lost his battle with ALS in 2008. His wife, Carol planned the golf tournament for 10 years and it was her wish to keep the classic going when she retired in 2018.
Carol passed away at the beginning of 2019, and organizers said the legacy needs to live on now more than ever.
"I think there's a lot of golf tournaments in this area and there's alot of worthy causes, but I feel people are out here for the cause that they are golfing for today," said Board Member for ALS of Utica, Judy Galimo.
The tournament has raised more than $30,000 for ALS Utica.
